Jay Brintnall named recipient of Jon Daeschner Outstanding Youth Award

On August 16th, Jay Brintnall, a senior at Hiawatha High School, was awarded the Jon Daeschner Outstanding Youth Award presented by SBS Insurance Agency. This reward is given to an outstanding youth based on his or her involvement and support within the community and their school. Jay was nominated and selected based on his work in helping orchestrate and grow recycling programs in Hiawatha and the surrounding area and also his community involvement through 4-H and his school.

The Jon Daeschner Outstanding Youth Award was started in order to honor youth of any age that are involved in making their community better. Jon Daeschner, the award’s namesake, believed in his community and was always involved in some way trying to make it flourish. This award was set up in his name to honor a youth that is involved in the community via Businesses, Church, Family, School, etc. by volunteering their time.

Congratulations Jay!

SBS Insurance Hiawatha is Spring Tea Particpant

The 9th annual Spring Tea was held on April 3, 2011 at the Fischer Center in Hiawatha, KS. The SBS Hiawatha agency was invited to design and decorate a Tea Table for the event that is a fund raiser for the Morrill Public library. Table viewing and a silent action took place before the "afternoon tea" in which hors d'oeuvres and desserts were provided along with the tea.

A separate tea for young children and teens was also provided with specific entertainment at each. There were 28 different tables decorated by area businesses, organizations and individuals. This is a fun and creative way for anyone to support the local library and will continue for many years.

Nancy Daeschner and Andrea Groth designed & decorated table "Everyone Loves a Kiss" featuring the book "Hershey's Kisses Addition and Subtraction!". For additional photo's of the other tables and this great fundraiser visit the Morrill Public Library website: http://www.hiawathalibrary.org/.
