On February 23rd, Alec Elffner, a 7th grader at Hiawatha Middle School, was awarded the Jon Daeschner Outstanding Youth Award presented by SBS Insurance Agency. This reward is given to an outstanding youth based on his or her involvement and support within the community and their school. Alec was nominated and selected based on his work in helping those less fortunate especially thru his coat drive which has helped give at least 500 coats to children who have otherwise went without.
The Jon Daeschner Outstanding Youth Award was started in order to honor youth of any age that are involved in making their community better. Jon Daeschner, the award’s namesake, believed in his community and was always involved in some way trying to make it flourish. This award was set up in his name to honor a youth that is involved in the community via Businesses, Church, Family, School, etc. by volunteering their time.
